A zoo in Europe invites the public to transform unwanted pets into the prey, calling donations from soft rabbits and family guinea pigs to be euthanized and fed on its predator residents.
The Aalborg Zoo in Denmark announced the program in an article on Facebook, arousing public outcry, including people’s anger for animal ethical treatment (PETA).
“If you have an animal which, for various reasons, must be repopulated, you are invited to donate us.” In this way, nothing is waste – and we ensure natural behavior, good nutrition and well -being for our predators. “
The zoo has said that individuals and businesses can give chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs, which, according to the organizers, constitute an important part of the predators’ diet.

More specifically, the zoo said that the Eurasian lynx needs “whole” prey which resemble what it would naturally hunt in nature.
“In zoos, we are responsible for reproducing the natural food chain of animals – for animal welfare and professional integrity,” wrote employees in the position.
The zoo also accepts horses, noting that the owners “can reach us until you wish.”

Peta weighed on the controversial initiative, claiming that there is nothing “natural” in the request for a donation.
“It is not a” natural behavior “for Asian predators, who travel and hunt their meals, to be fed by pets from South America,” Peta wrote in an online press release. “Pets are never necessary to” imitate the natural food chain of animals (from the zoo) “(like a spokesperson for the Aalborg zoo described the program).”

Peta added that if the Aalborg zoo “really cares about animals”, it should focus on protecting species in their natural habitats.
The zoo then disabled comments on its article on Facebook detailing the program, citing “important international interest”.

“We understand that the post evokes emotions and interest, but hateful and malicious rhetoric is not necessary – and we encourage to keep a respectful tone,” wrote leadership. “We are happy to develop and answer questions via private messages or emails.”
The Aalborg and Peta zoo did not immediately respond to the request for comments from Fox News Digital.
