An epic drama during the first two weeks of the university football season.

The defending national champion of the Ohio State Buckeyes closed the then. Texas Longhorns ranked the goal line three times. The Ohio State quickly reduced discussions on the size of Texas Arch Manning quarter. Buckeyes are now team n ° 1 in the country. Especially after shaking up the state of grams 70-0 during week 2.

The state of Florida whipped the Alabama. And we didn’t even talk about the beginning of Bill Belichick coach in North Carolina.

So settle for a whole season by mid-January.

But there could be new rules on the rules of the game. The congress can try to arbitrate what collegial athletes can gain on their own name, their resemblance and their image, better known as Nils.

“Without clear rules and an application mechanism, the zero landscape is similar to the West West,” said representative Russell Fry, Rs.C.

There are bills competing in the Chamber and the Senate to combat the remuneration of student-athletes. The House bill, prepared during the summer by the Energy and Trade Committee, establishes a national standard for the NLS and allows schools to pay the athletes directly. This would replace a multitude of different rules that change state to the other.

“We have already seen states in competition with each other to obtain a head start. And this patchwork threatens the values and the balance that makes university sports so special,” said representative Debbie Dingell, D-Mich.

It has reservations on the invoice of the current house.

Chamber’s legislation comes from an agreement of several billion dollars approved by a federal judge earlier this summer. This agreement allows schools to pay students-athletes up to $ 20.5 million a year.

It is just a ribbon of what most of the grandes écoles in large conferences wrap each year. But schools will probably start most of the money in football and basketball. These sports generate the most income from university athletics.

But the score is far from being settled.

“Whether or not we should authorize students-athletes to be considered as employees under the law, the ramifications of this would be quite deep,” said senator Todd Young, R-Ind.

He noted that a Senate bill to regulate salary in university sports is on “the proverbial line of one meters”.

Most Democrats in the Chamber oppose the plan. They believe that this inhibits the rights of university athletes – as workers.

“This bill prohibits student-athletes from the rights of the first amendment to train unions, also guaranteed by national labor relations law,” said representative Darren Soto, D-FLA. “They have fundamental rights. Like the right to organize.”

Senator Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., Is the best democrat of the Senate trade committee. She said that the House Energy and Trade Bill for Money for Minor Sports, Female Programs and only benefit from major conferences such as Big 10 and SEC. She claims that the bill will trigger “a conflict” between sports that earn money in schools and those who do not.

Most Democrats argue that legislators should rather focus on higher education problems, not on the sports field. Especially since some schools are now threatened with the federal government and the Trump administration.

“You must have a college to have university sports,” said representative Frank Pallone, DN.J., the best democrat of the energy and trade committee. “And the way we go with this administration, I don’t even know if there will be colleges or universities that are worth fighting.”

Pallone added that the committee’s objective was poorly oriented in the midst of issues on education and health care.

“However, the Republicans ignore them. And rather prefer to talk about university sports,” said Pallone.

Republicans on the Energy and Commerce panel supported the package, but democratic support was limited. In addition, players’ associations for Major League Baseball, NFL, NBA, NHL and Football by Major League all oppose the legislation. They believe that the bill prevents colleges athletes from negotiating an equitable salary.

The problems “Pay” and “Nile” have annoyed the best officials of college athletics for years. NCAA and many schools have long prompted an intervention by the congress.

“We have the impression that there is a better destination and stabilization that advances. But we need the help of Congress and national legislation,” said ACC commissioner Jim Phillips, on Fox News earlier this year.

Former Alabama football coach Nick Saban echoes Phillips during an interview with colleague Bret Bare.

“Now we just have state legislation, and each state is different,” said Saban. “We need a kind of federal standard and directives that allow people to apply their own rules.”

Pallone may have questioned the priorities of her committee by focusing on the payment of student-athletes, but other legislators wonder why the NCAA itself could not settle the payment fight.

“I think that if they had stronger management, if they made decisions very early, we would not be in this position,” said representative Richard Hudson, RN.C. “It is regrettable that the congress must intervene.”

However, the Northern Carolina Republican added that he was “deeply concerned about the future of university sports if we do not act”.

This is why the representative Yvette Clarke, DN.Y., wants the congress to be involved – even if it is opposed to the plan of the current room.

“We just can’t turn to the same entities that have created the broken and inequitable system of the past to serve a new system guards,” said Clarke.

The prosecutors general of Florida, Ohio, New York, Tennessee and the District of Columbia are concerned about the antitrust arrangements in the plan of the Chamber. The Big West conference believes that the legislation is biased towards major conferences.

This fight can therefore spread in overtime on Capitol Hill.

The congress could one day vote on the refining legislation. Or legislators can again emerge – as they have been doing for several years now.

But it is a lower priority for the congress. Legislators must avoid a government closure by October 1, and they may need to fight with another government financing tour this fall.

The university football season has just started, but the real challenge is whether the congress will address this problem before the national championship match on January 19, 2026.
