Many senators have failed to pass their amendments through the finish line during the voting of the room on Monday, leaving the future of the “big and beautiful bill” of President Donald Trump.
Two key failures came from senator Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Senator John Cornyn, R-Texas, the first proposing a plan that would have strengthened the funding of rural hospitals and the last calling for new discounts in Medicaid.
Collins and Cornyn were far from the only legislators who had failed modifications, however. Here are some details on some of the unsuccessful efforts, as well as the one who succeeded with almost unanimous support.

Rural hospital financing
The Collins amendment would have doubled the funding of rural hospitals from 25 billion to $ 50 billion over the next 10 years, and this would have enabled a larger number of medical suppliers to access funds.
“Rural providers, in particular our rural hospitals and our nursing homes, are currently at great financial pressure, many of which have recently closed and others being at risk of closing,” said Collins before the vote. “This amendment would help keep them open and take care of those who live in rural communities.”
Collins said that the bill was somehow a branch of olive tree for the Democrats, who had criticized the Medicaid cups involved in the megabill. Its amendment would also have increased tax rates for people who earn more than $ 25 million a year and couples earning more than $ 50 million.

“They have complained several times at the distribution of this bill, Medicaid cuts injuring individuals, rural hospitals and prolonged tax reductions for rich people, and yet, when I tried to solve these two problems, they adopted a very hypocritical approach,” said Collins.
Senator Ron Wyden, D-ear., Argued that the amendment of Collins was only putting an “dressing on an amputation”.
Extended Medicaid Cups
Cornyn was joined by Sens. Rick Scott, R-Fla., And John Barrasso, R-Wyo., Pushing an amendment reducing on Monday $ 313 billion from Medicaid.
The trio said they were pushing to limit the growth of Medicaid, and they had been convinced that the adjustment would pass. All three were seen entering the leader of the majority of the Senate on Monday, the head of the majority John Thune because it has become clear that the amendment was lacking in support.

The basic bill already reduces $ 930 billion in funding for Medicaid, which has led many colleagues from the trio to retreat to new cuts.
“It seems that we took it until I was comfortable taking it,” said senator Jim Justice, RW.V., concerning the Medicaid garnitures.
Stimulate franchises for teachers
Kennedy had proposed an amendment that would have allowed teachers to deduct $ 600 in school supplies they pay from their pockets each year.
The proposal finally failed during a vote of 46-54.

Pave the way to state AI laws
An amendment that succeeded was a measure which killed a provision of the bill which would have placed a 10 -year moratorium on the regulations of the State AI.
The original version of the bill would have forced the States to choose between applying AI regulations or accept federal funding to extend access to broadband Internet. Sense. Edward Markey, D-Ma., And Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., Joined Senator Maria Cantwell to sponsor the amendment.
