New York Town Hall candidate Zohran Mamdani again calls for cheaper tickets for the World Cup.

Mamdani, a democratic socialist, appeared on the podcast “Pablo Torre Dissets Out” last week, where he discussed ticket prices for the World Cup matches in New York, one of the host cities of the finals.

“What we see is that the FIFA approach for the World Cup ticket process is both unprecedented in their own administration of previous World Cups and is also an approach that will evaluate so many New Yorks to be in the stands,” he said.

Mamdani, a self-proclaimed fan of the Arsenal Football Club in England, noted that a ticket for the final match when the World Football Tournament was the last in the United States in 1994 cost $ 200 in today’s dollars.

“We are now at its nominal value, seeing tickets for more than $ 6,000,” he said. “It’s absurd.”

Mamdani recently asked that 15% of the tickets be set aside at reduced prices for residents and asked FIFA, the football director, to reverse a plan to fix the prices of tickets according to the request.

The World Cup will be played in 16 cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Eight matches, whose final, will be held at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey, just opposite the Hudson River in New York.

The FIFA plan to adopt a dynamic pricing model triggered a backlash among certain fans, previously reported the Associated Press.

Tickets will start $ 60 for group matches and will drop to $ 6,730 for the final, officials said earlier this month. However, prices could fluctuate within the framework of the pricing model based on demand.
