The deputy general prosecutor of Rhode Island, whose arrest became viral earlier this week after apparently attempting to use his position to escape arrest, telling the police that they “regret” putting it behind bars, will be placed on unpaid leave.
The special assistant prosecutor Devon Flanagan, who was arrested for intrusion, was put on remunerated leave directly after the incident while the Office of the Attorney General of Rhode Island examined the case. But, from Monday, Flanagan will go on unpaid leave, the office told Fox News Digital.
We do not know how long Flanagan will remain on unpaid leave until a final determination is taken on his job. The prosecutor’s office did not answer additional questions about his continuous examination of the case, or when he could make a final decision.

According to the Boston Globe, the state payroll registers show that Flanagan ratified approximately $ 113,000 per year in his position as a special assistant assistant prosecutor.
“I am an AG! I am an AG!” Flanagan could be heard in the police when they were trying to hold it for not having respected their requests. “You will regret that. You will regret it. I am an A-” said Flanagan while she was escorted at the back of a police car and the door was closed.
“So much the better for you, I do not give an S —“, “can be heard one of the officers who stop at some point.

In an interview on the later radio and the result of the arrest of Flanagan, the prosecutor general of the Rhode Island, Peter Neronha, described the incident as “inexcusable behavior” which will probably lead “strong and strong sanctions”. However, he noted that it was not the first time that he has taken care of a case like this involving his staff.
“I have 110 lawyers, she embarrassed them all. I did not have many problems like this while I am a attorney general. I had a few, and I left a guy going into drunkenness – I had to bring him back – well that I had not had it, but I brought him back after having drawn useful murder, a year later because, again, I need WPro Radio.

“It is really difficult to find and keep lawyers capable and therefore I just have to think very carefully about it. But there will be no questions of strong and strong sanction here,” continued the Attorney General.
Neronha added that he thought the incident was linked to alcohol and noted that it does not necessarily excuse behavior. He also said that Flanagan had a “spotless” record under him, is well considered by the State Bar Association and takes measures to make amends with the new Port Police Department, in particular apology.

The Attorney General was asked about certain details of the incident, especially if Flanagan was right to tell the officer that it was the law that he had to extinguish his bodily camera on request by a citizen.
“I don’t know what she was thinking. Obviously, she did not think directly,” said Neronha, who added that Flanagan was incorrect in his assertion that the police had to turn off their camera on request.
“She is humiliated herself,” added Neronha. “No matter what’s going on via her job with us, she’s going to come back for a long time. It’s really unfortunate.”
