The ancient Roman mosaic reveals the image of the 4th century flip -flops in Sicily

An ancient Roman mosaic recently revealed an old representation of millennials of Tongs – showing that some shoes have always been fashionable.

The discovery was announced by the Morgantina archaeological park and the Villa Romana del Casale on August 4.

The villa, an old Roman area, was appointed a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997 and is located in Piazza Armerina, a central Sicilian city.

The villa is famous for having the largest collection of Roman mosaics in the world.

“During recent excavation work, two sandals represented in a mosaic were discovered, resembling modern flip -flops,” said a statement translated from Italian on the newly digested mosaic.

“These are not simple decorations, but rather a refined work created by a fourth century mosaic craftsman, part of a larger mosaic design that adorned the section of the southern bath of the villa.”

The officials said that “extraordinary” discoveries helped to enrich “the already large archaeological heritage of the site”.

In addition to the discovery of rocking, those responsible also found a mosaic inscription, as well as three columns with their intact capitals.

Mosaic is not the only ancient Roman find which has arisen in recent months.
