The American virtual embassy in Iran insists that the Americans leave the country of the Middle East in the middle of conflicts in the region after a partial reopening of its airspace.
This comes after a cease-fire agreement between Iran and Israel to end the conflict of almost two weeks.
“As of June 26, 2025, Iranian airspace was partially reopened, although Téhéran’s business trips and other major centers can be interrupted,” said the embassy in an opinion. “American citizens should follow the local media and consult commercial airlines to obtain more information on the flights from Iran.”
American citizens wishing to leave Iran must travel by field to Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey or Turkmenistan if the conditions are safe, said the embassy.

The US State Department has created a crisis information acceptance form for American citizens in Iran to provide information on consular assistance, noted the embassy. But due to the limits of consular support in Iran, the embassy said it did not provide that Iran’s withdrawal will receive direct assistance from the United States government.
American citizens who plan to leave Iran must use the installations available to leave the country, he said.
The embassy encouraged the Americans who wanted to leave Iran to take several measures, in particular having a plan to immediately go without counting on the American government, keeping their loaded phones and by communicating with beings dear to their situation, preparing an emergency plan for emergency situations and by registering for alerts with the American government such as the intelligent passenger recording program Emergency stadium.

Americans who cannot leave Iran are invited to find a safe place in their residence or another safe building and transport food, water, medicines and other essential items with them.
At certain intervals, the Iranian government has limited access to the mobile internet network and physical telephone lines, said the embassy, adding that US citizens should be prepared for Internet network failures and developing alternative connectivity and network communication plans.
“American-Iranian citizens must leave Iran with an Iranian passport and before leaving Iran, they must be ready to face control points and to be questioned by the Iranian authorities,” said the embassy. “The state of the Double Citizenship Iranian government does not recognize and only deal with the citizens of the Americans-Iranians only as Iranian citizens. American nationals in Iran run a significant risk of questioning, arrest and detention. Showing an American passport or proving a link with the United States is a sufficient reason for the arrest of a person by the Iranian authorities.”

“American passports can be confiscated in Iran,” he continued. “American-Iranian citizens should consider that in their Iranian passport, they will receive the visas necessary for the countries they will cross during their return trip to the United States, so that in the event of confiscation of their American passport, they can (their) Iranian passport in Iran.
