A federal judge ruled on Friday that ICE agents can continue to arrests from the courthouse in New York, which has closed a dispute raised by ACLU and immigrants’ rights groups.

District judge P. Kevin Castel, appointed by George W. Bush, noted that there was not enough evidence to suggest that changes in the ICE justice palace policy were “unexplained, arbitrary and capricious” after 2021, the directives, allowed arrests to immigration or nearby courses.

Noting that the directives in 2025 are more “expansive and permissive”, Castel has recognized that the ice has made changes because local correctional facilities and prisons, which are considered “safe” locations due to security screening, are not available due to state and local policies concerning immigration holders.

However, the judge blocked a policy of the Ministry of Justice encouraging immigration judges to reject cases so that the ice can immediately stop migrants.

The Trump administration launched an initiative in June to arrest illegal immigrants after asylum hearings.

Tactics has aroused controversy, criticisms saying that migrants seeking legal citizenship would be less likely to run for hearings, and those arrested after hearings may not have additional criminal stories.

The videos of the arrests have become viral on social networks, some going as far as the accusation of the “kidnapping” ice of migrants.

“In its fervor to expel as many immigrants as possible from the country, the Trump administration aims at immigrants at the very place set up to judge their status: the immigration court,” wrote Diana Konaté, assistant executive director of politics and defense of African communities, wrote in a statement published by ACLU.

“Every day, our members are forced to choose between being kidnapped and / or put an accelerated return or risk deeper legal consequences because they are too afraid to go to court.

“This is exactly what the administration wanted – so that people are so afraid of the application that they lose the resources and systems even in place to protect them. We intended this trial on behalf of our members and fighting for justice.”
