Rumors have swirled about the political future of the Democrat representative of “Squad” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez since she joined the high-level tour of Senator Bernie Sanders “Fighting Oligarchy” earlier this year.
The youngest woman ever elected to Congress has become a leading progressive voice in the Democratic Party, amassing millions of followers on social networks and arousing speculation on a potential Senate race or an offer from the White House in 2028. His ascent on the national scene comes as Democrats are looking for a new leadership after losing and decreasing the vote last year.
The chief of staff of Ocasio-Cortez and the campaign director are both alumni of the Sanders campaign. Mike Casca, his chief of staff, was previously assistant chief of staff of Sanders and an element of Sanders’ political operation, both on the campaign of the campaign and back on Capitol Hill.
Its campaign director, Oliver Hidalgo-Wohlleben, has been working in politics for more than a decade. Before joining the Ocasio-Cortez team in 2023, Hidalgo-Wohlleben was the political director of Sanders Super PAC, Friends of Bernie Sanders, according to his LinkedIn.

“AOC is a fairly informed politician with a solid operation,” Democratic Mike Nellis told Fox News Digital. “No matter what she decides to do, they prepare her in the future.”
Animnus de Sanders himself, Nelis warned against taking too much weight on what it means for former Sanders staff members to direct the Ocasio-Cortez campaign.
“I think it’s just what she knows and who she trusts,” said Nelis, a former advisor to the vice-president Kamala Harris, adding that ocasio-cortez has a “very good team around her”.
“It is strategic in the sense that they already have a lot of relationships,” said Democratic Stratege Kaanvan Shroff, while stressing that it can be a “error to keep the old guard” when you try to build something new.
“I don’t know that someone will inherit the heritage of Bernie Sanders,” added Shroff.
Axios recently reported This, according to people familiar with Ocasio-Cortez’s political operation, her team positioned her to present himself to the presidency or in the US Senate in 2028.

Schumer is re -elected in 2028. By then, he will have served 47 years at Congress.
“The AOC does not need the Senate,” Republican strategist Matt Gorman told Fox News Digital. “The Senate, at this stage, is too small for her. I would expect her to show up for President 2028.”
That she chooses to introduce herself to the presidency or in the Senate, Nelis said that Ocasio-Cortez had the potential to attract voters who generally do not engage in the political process, just like the coalition that President Donald Trump has built.
“When you are an unconventional candidate outside the dominant current, outside the establishment, you can get a lot of people who will connect and may be different because you give them a significant voice,” said Nelis.
But Shroff said that Ocasio-Cortez was not ready for a presidential campaign.
“She should absolutely not go to the presidency,” said Shroff. “It would be far too early. I don’t think she really has enough to justify this.”
“For the Senate, I see that as more realistic, especially in a state like New York, it is obviously more liberal,” added Shroff, arguing that “some very faithful basic democrats have lost their patience” with Schumer, so that his vulnerability can stimulate the chances of Ocasio-Cortez to secure the Senate’s seat.

Shroff said that “Ocasio-Cortez’s” profile and personality and charisma “were not sufficient to win the presidency, especially when they run against figures like California Gavin Newsom, considered for a long time to house presidential aspirations.
The New Yorker sparked the campaign more buzz this month to participate in an advertisement directly contesting Trump and pleading in favor of the redistribution of California.
Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders have both approved and campaigned this year for the candidate for the Democrat Town Hall of New York Zohran Mamdani, a self-written democratic socialist.
If Mamdani won the mayor’s election in November, Shroff said it could be a decisive test for the modern progressive branch of the Democratic Party.
“It will be difficult for him because I do not think he can do a lot of things he said, and therefore how long this left ideology will be demystified at the national level? The sooner it happens, the worst for AOC,” said Shroff.
In April, the Ocasio-Cortez campaign account Published a video on X It made rumors that she could think about a presidential race as a democrat with four mandates from New York and the progressive leader proclaimed: “We are one”.

When asked later this month if she fed presidential ambitions, the young Democrat did not exclude presidential aspirations in 2028 at Fox News Digital.
“Bernie and AOC, one thing they understand is that democrats must be more than a simple anti-top,” said Gorman, before adding: “I certainly do not agree with the strategy of Bernie and AOC on how to lead the party and where to take America, but at least they have one. It’s more than simply”, I hate Trump. ‘”
The republican strategist said that “the Democratic Party could not stop a bacon on the left a little left this time,” said Gorman.
Ocasio-Cortez and Schumer campaigns did not immediately respond to the request for comments from Fox News Digital.
