Suozzi representative warns that Democrats need economic concentration after Mamdani’s primary victory

Representative Tom Suozzi, Dn.y., says he does not agree with Zohran Mamdani with regard to his positions, but said that his democratic colleagues could learn something from the Democratic socialist – something that reminds him of President Donald Trump.

“You must recognize that he has exploited something,” said Suozzi on “Face The Nation” of CBS on Sunday. “He exploited the same thing that Donald Trump has hit, is that people fear that the economy will not work for them.”

The “democratic capitalist”, as he describes himself, said in an editorial of the Wall Street Journal last week that Mamdani’s victory in the primary Democratic mayor should be a “noisy awakening for the Democrats”.

“Too often, Democrats are not perceived as focused on affordability and the economy and the middle class and people who aspire to the middle class and their economic concerns,” Suozzi told Weijia Jiang, who filled Margaret Brennan.

“They consider Democrats to be mainly focused on reproductive rights and LGBT protections, which are important questions, but it is not the problems of people think every evening when they are lying in bed, thinking of paying their bills or when they talk about how they are going to send their children to school,” he continued.

Although Suozzi does not believe that Trump or Mamdani have the right way to follow with regard to these questions, he said that Democrats could learn to look at root issues.

“Everyone in America, whether you are a right-wing curator or a leftist progressive, should believe that in exchange for working hard, you earn enough money for you to have a good life,” he said. “You can buy a house. You can educate your children. You can pay for your health insurance. You can retire one day without being afraid. People don’t feel it currently, and we have to do a better job to communicate this.”
