Summerslam 2025: Cody Rhodes wins the undisputed WWE championship

The death of the torch only occurs several times in Pro Wrestling and Cody Rhodes and John Cena added another chapter to WWE Lore in Summerslam on Sunday evening.

Rhodes beat Cena to return to the undisputed WWE championship in an epic street fight that ended an incredible weekend at the Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. He marked the second title of title for Rhodes after winning the championship at Wrestlemania 40.

Cena came out to her classic song “My Time is now” in a full return on her Babyface manners. The crowd of the Metlife Stadium broke out, even Rhodes smiles.

But the jokes quickly left.

It was a street fight for the undisputed WWE championship during a night which already had a ton of violence. But there were a lot of questions for the two competitors in the match. Could Rhodes bring together a killer instinct to store Cena? Was Cena really going to dig deep into her soul to find herself and become Superman one last time?

Rhodes took Tyrese Haliburton’s crutch to the back. He slammed Cena on the steel steps but also eaten these same steps. It was at the start of the match, but both proved that they were going to make great efforts to win the greatest WWE.

Cena first struck the adjustment of the attitude of nowhere. He tried to pin Rhodes but to no avail. It was too early to drop the “American nightmare”. Rhodes had already tried to pin Cena with her least movements, but Cena was ready and was not sufficiently beaten.

Almost frustrated and too much inside his head, Rhodes hit a disaster kick and a cody cut. However, pine attempts were not going to work on the world champion at 17 times.

Rhodes then succeeded in a movement which was technically prohibited – the Piledriver. Cena did not go down and he played a little Opossum to stun Rhodes with an attitude adjustment shortly after. The two wrestlers were deeply in their bag.

The fight has evolved outside the ring and Cena was hunting. He struck Rhodes with a microphone then a red code. He cleared the Spanish announcement table and supported Rhodes on his shoulders while standing on the table of Michael Cole and Wade Barrett. He then struck Rhodes with the adjustment of the attitude through the Spanish announcement table.

Cena brought Rhodes back in the ring and tried to identify him. However, Rhodes did not go down.

Another hayle of air and Rhodes was able to counter Cena and hit a Rhodes cross shortly after Cena’s spit attempt. Rhodes then covered Cena but could not obtain the three statements.

The frustrations took place for the two men. They took the fight in the crowd – far from the ring they needed to fill the victory. Cena and Rhodes fought around the stadium and towards the ramp. Cena had Rhodes on her shoulders when the two went to the elevator that Rhodes used for her entry.

Cena then struck another attitude adjustment. However, he had to bring Rhodes back to the ring. Cena brought him back to the ring, but Rhodes used time to get another adrenaline burst. As they returned to the ring, Rhodes threw Cena through the table.

Rhodes has loosened the rope and removed everything from its hinges. The lower rope was down and Rhodes used the whole tensioner to its advantage. But Cena, never the veteran, won Rhodes and smothered Rhodes with the rope. The challenger still turned the tables on Cena.

Bruised and beaten that the fight has won.

Rhodes had Cena in a difficult situation. He struck not one but three cross rhodes on Cena. He thought he had finished Cena. He went to get the spindle but did not reach two.

Rhodes then had his superb boost. Cena reversed Rhodes’ attempt to hit him with the title belt. Cena nailed two attitude adjustments, then a third of the average rope. However, Cena met her match. Rhodes launched two.

In the last moments, Rhodes put Cena through a table. After Cena was hung on the strings, he praised Cena and hit the Rhodes cross.

One, two, three – Rhodes won the victory.

Cena stood at the center of the ring, pointing that her time was almost up. WWE fans thanked Cena for having made another epic demonstration of professional struggle.
