A devastating landslide hit the village of Tarasin in the center of Sudan on Sunday August 31, killing at least 1,000 people, according to a rebel group controlling the region.

The Sudan / Army Liberation Movement (SLM-A) said that the horrible incident had been launched by days of torrential precipitation at the end of August and “completely leveled the village on the ground”.

“The initial information indicates the death of all residents of the village, estimated at more than a thousand people. Only one person has survived,” said the Sudan / army release movement in a statement.
