Storm kills the South Korean climber, strand of the hundreds near Mont Everest

A South Korean climber died in Nepal after being caught in a powerful storm while trying to top a Himalayan peak just south of Mont Everest. Meanwhile, hundreds of hikers began to evacuate after the weather left them blocked in the region.
Nepal Mountaineering Association confirmed on Tuesday the death of the South Korean climber. It had been missing during the weekend near the Mera Peak summit, a mountain of 21,250 feet in the north of the Himalayas. Other mountain climbers have been reported safe.
The tragedy took place as heavy snow and rain blocked hundreds of hikers near Everest. A hiker, identified only by the surname Dong, told the morning of the Xiaoxiang in China that he had never seen such a severe storm, describing intense snowfall and a lightning.
Men on Monday evening, 350 people were safely descended, while more than 200 others were guided to an designated meeting point, according to the Chinese state diffuser CCTV.

Blocked hikers camped at altitudes above 16,000 feet. Mount Everest, which reaches 29,000 feet and overlaps the border between China and Nepal. The Chinese side of Everest is located at the southern end of Tibet.

Elsewhere in China, research teams were painting the Qilian mountains on Tuesday in the province of Qinghai after another deadly storm. A hiker has died of hypothermia and altitude evil and 213 others have been evacuated from the accidental region since Sunday.
