There are many paths to live a longer and healthier life, mainly through physical activity, diet and other lifestyle factors.

But according to the certified cardiovascular surgeon of the board of directors, Dr. Jeremy London, the key to longevity could be summed up in two main measures.

In a video published on its more than a million followers on social networks, London has broken down how two factors – VO2 max and Muscle Mass – can help increase health and lifespan.

What people who live up to 100 years are in common, according to science

VO2 Max is an indicator of body efficiency uses oxygen with intense exercise, said London, which is based in Savannah, in Georgia.

“In other words, the health of your cardiovascular system,” he said. “Not surprising that this increases the duration of health and the lifespan.”

In an interview with the camera with Fox News Digital, London added that VO2 Max is “statistically” the n ° 1 indicator of longevity. (See the video at the top of this article.)

By comparing individuals with low VO2 max to those with a higher VO2 max, scientists have identified “improvement amplitudes” in reducing cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, as well as increasing longevity.

“Even if you have never done an exercise, or if you haven’t done the exercise for a long time, you can always get advantages.”

A recent publication of the Harvard Medical School has confirmed that a high VO2 is in correlation with better physical form and a lower risk of cardiovascular disease.

“If you know your VO2 Max, you can use it as a tool to help you do exercise more effectively,” Harvard experts wrote.

“If you have a higher VO2 max, it means that your heart and your lungs provide blood more effectively to your muscles, and that your muscles extract effectively and use the oxygen of your blood. This is why a High VO2 Max is a good indicator of a high physical level.”

Muscle mass is the next element that can have an impact on longevity, has noted London.

“It is a second close and plays an important role in the ability to continue the activities of daily life as we age,” he told Fox News Digital. “The combination of the two is the magic sauce.”

Aging brains could “become” younger when key proteins are reduced

One of the reasons is that muscle is a “glucose well”, which means that it decreases the risk of resistance to insulin and metabolic syndrome.

When the body is sick, muscle mass can also secrete “myocins”, which are anti-inflammatory proteins that can decrease the seriousness of diseases.

Construction of muscle mass does not always require heavy goods vehicle training or intense exercise. In fact, London said he sometimes hesitated to use the word “exercise”.

“Make yourself,” he said. “It could be to dance for some people, it could be swimming, it could just go for a walk … It can be just body weight or yoga, or pilates or something else.”

The key is consistency, he said, and find a balance between what you need and what you like to do for physical form and movement.

“There is no answer to everyone, but you just want to put your muscles under stress and tension so that they can grow up,” said London.

“And you want to move regularly during the week so that you get your heart rate to keep your VO2 max as high as possible, depending on your age.”

London added: “What is cool is that even if you have never done an exercise, or if you have not done the exercise for a long time, you can always get advantages.”
