The selection of the jury is expected to end Wednesday in the federal trial of Ryan Routh, the northern Caroline man accused of having tried to assassinate President Donald Trump last year.
The court works in its third and last panel of potential jurors, aimed at welcoming 12 jurors and four substitutes before the opening declarations Thursday morning.
At the end of Tuesday, the court had already rejected more than 70 of the first 180 potential jurors, many of which citing strong opinions on Trump, links with the police or concerns concerning impartiality in a highly politicized case.
All eyes will be on the speed with which the court can accommodate a complete panel and if Routh continues to test the limits of self-representation. Trump judge, Aileen Cannon, who chairs the case, clashed several times with the accused when she canceled a list of issues off topic and politically charged that Roth asked the potential jurors during the selection.

Roth asked what extent the potential jurors thought about Ukraine and the war in Gaza and asked a bizarre question about how they could react in search of a turtle on the road, which encourages cannon to remind him that the “pro” status does not excuse him from the courtroom procedure. His adult children were present in court, with a son, Oran, listed as a character witness despite being imprisoned for unrelated accusations.
Routh also tried to hit a potential juror which revealed that he had once had breakfast with the president and the first lady while interviewing for a work of golf superintendent 25 years ago. The man told court that he had respected Trump and found him “very nice”, but insisted that he could always be fair. Cannon denied Roth’s request, noting that the interaction of several decades did not disqualified it.

Tuesday also saw Cannon withdraw 23 jurors from a third 60 -year -old basin, leaving a pool of around 110 potential jurors still under study. Among the people dismissed earlier, there was a man who said he was present at the arrest of Routh, another who received a vocal messaging of him two days before, and a woman who got up during the interrogation to declare: “I am Maga … It is our president”, before admitting that she could not presume the innocence of Routh.
Routh himself moved to exclude a juror for racist comments in a questionnaire, which the court granted.
