Seine River in Paris reopens for public swimming after the Olympic cleaning efforts

The Seine river in Paris, in France, has officially reopened for public swimming. (See the video at the top of this article.)

This is the first time that the river has been open to swimmers since 1923, Reuters reported.

The reopening of July 5 arrived after a major thrust to clean the river formerly polluted before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where events like male and female triathlon were to take place.

Last -minute tests considered water safety for swimmers, although the male race was postponed for a day due to safety problems.

For the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, each nation has also been navigated on the river, making the Seine a focal point for the Olympians and visitors.

Now the public can swim on three sites along the banks of the river.

These sites are available for more than 1,000 swimmers to visit daily until August 31.

The first of the swimmers shared their thoughts with Reuters.

“Really nice, I am impressed, surprised,” said a 24 -year -old Brazilian who lives in Paris. “I never imagined being in the water near the Eiffel Tower.”

A 51 -year -old said: “The water is clean, it’s hot, it’s clear. There is a little algae, but it’s normal.”

The cleaning effort would have included investments connecting tens of thousands of houses to the sewer system, upgrading the water treatment facilities and the construction of rainwater storage tanks to prevent the sewers overflow during heavy storms.

During the swimming season, daily water tests would be carried out, the green and red flags indicating which areas are open or closed.

Apart from Paris, 14 swimming sites will be installed on the Seine and Marne rivers, with an already open couple.
