EXCLUSIVE: The Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Scott Turner, wants to stop “the government’s dependence cycle” for the homeless after the order of President Donald Trump for a federal takeover of Washington, DC
“President Trump is the president of the law and the order and now he takes the necessary measures to restore the law and order to the capital of our country,” Turner said in an exclusive declaration to Fox News Digital. “Americans who live and work in DC, and families on tour in the neighborhood should be able to walk in the streets without fear of being active or shot.”
“Years of failed policies and weak leadership in the district have led to chaos, crime, violence and homelessness. President Trump brings back peace and stability to workers and laws respectful,” continued the secretary.

“Within the framework of this vision, HUD undertakes to bring the order to put an end to the cycle of dependence of the government which allowed perpetual homeless. Help the most vulnerable beginnings of our nation by their gift of the tools they need to achieve self-sufficiency, and not the documents of the without end,” he added.
In a position earlier this week, Turner noted that “crime interrupts revitalization on its traces”.
Much of the repression of the federal government in the city is to clean the homeless camps on land in Washington, DC, which is the responsibility of the National Park Service.
The white house press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a briefing on Tuesday that the options are for people to accept help, or to face time behind bars.

Meanwhile, there has been a significant increase in federal officers around the capital in recent days in the midst of very debated efforts to limit crime in the region. While many Republicans and others welcomed this decision, many Democrats said it was an overtaking of authority.
Mayor Muriel Bowser said that you have been a problem, but also criticized the federal buyout method.
“This is a time when the community must intervene. “You have heard a lot about young people in recent months, especially young people who participate in truly destructive and disruptive behavior with this kind of youth control,” said the mayor this week. “Some of them are our children. Some of them go through the region to descend in places like the Navy court. So parents – this is not the first time you have heard that you say – so parents, you really need to know where your children are. I think we really have children who are destruction, not criminals, but they come together in large groups and really cause us destruction.”

The DC police union supported the latest actions of the Trump administration, saying that it could serve as a critical turning point for the city on crime.
“Last night, DC underwent the serious stage of its 100th homicide for 2025. Hopefully this federal intervention will lead to a real change in the laws of DC which allow this from year to year,” published the group on August 12.
