Women in the sixties and the 1970s could theoretically give birth to genetically related children, according to pioneering scientists from a breakthrough technique that converts DNA skin cell DNA capable of producing embryos.

Researchers from Oregon Health and Science University have created human embryos at an early stage from DNA drawn from skin cells and fertilized them with sperm.

Although in its infancy, the experimental technique, described in a new studyCould open possibilities for elderly women who no longer have eggs and also same -sex couples who want children genetically linked to both partners.

Although some experts warn the work at the start of the stages, they predict that, in case of success, technology could be ready for clinical use within 10 to 15 years.

Dr. Paulo Amato, reproductive endocrinologist and obstetrics and gynecology teacher at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, told Fox News Digital the Discovery and the study were promising.

“It is a very preliminary work at this stage, but if it succeeded, it would offer hope to couples and people suffering from infertility, especially older women who lacked eggs,” said Amato, who co-wrote and co-investigated the recent study.

Amato has warned that even if the method works, bringing pregnancy to an advanced age has significant health risks.

“We still have to keep in mind that someone has to wear this pregnancy,” she said. “Thus, we do not necessarily recommend women in the sixties and the 1970s to wear pregnancies, but, theoretically, they could have a genetically linked child. I would predict that it is in 10 to 15 years, at least.”

The experimental procedure begins with the nucleus of a skin cell, which contains DNA.

Scientists remove this nucleus and insert it into a donor egg that has made its own nucleus removed.

The egg is then triggered to throw half of its chromosomes, reducing them from 46 to 23.

This makes it compatible for fertilization with sperm, adding the other 23 chromosomes.

In case of success, the resulting embryo is genetically normal and can be transferred to a uterus to start pregnancy.

The technique could also help women who have had anterior cancer therapy or transform family planning for same -sex couples.

“This would potentially allow same -sex couples to have a child genetically linked to the two partners,” said Amato.

“Usually, they must use eggs from a donor. With this technology, we could use a skin cell of a partner to create an egg, fertilize it with the sperm of the other and produce a baby genetically linked to the two.

“It is a preliminary work, and there are a lot of things that we must understand before it is ready,” said Amato.

“All the embryos we created were actually genetically abnormal, with too much or too much chromosomes. We have a lot of work to do.”
