The longtime star of the Hollywood action which was the last elected representative republican in California dominated by Democrats is preparing to oppose the push of the current Governor Gavin Newsom to abolish the non -partisan Rediscuction Commission.

“He calls the evil of Gerrymandering, and he means it. He thinks it is really bad for politicians to take the power of people,” Schwarzenegger spokesperson told Politico.

Newsom, which experts consider a probable competitor for the 2028 democratic presidential appointment, aims to redesign the California congresses cards, to give the State five other districts of the Blue Chamber before the mid-term elections next year.

Newsom’s push is a counter-effect to cancel a decision in progress by the Texas Republicans dominated by the GOP to create five other districts of the right-wing congress during the request of President Donald Trump.

The republican thrust in Texas is part of a wider effort of the GOP across the country to keep control of their majority at the house thinly like a razor, and losses of cushion elsewhere in the country, because the ruling party is traditionally confronted with political winds and loses seats in mid-term elections.

Trump and his political team aim to prevent what happened during his first mandate in the White House, when the Democrats returned to seize the majority of the room in the middle of 2018.

Schwarzenegger, during his governor mandate, played a main role in the adoption of constitutional amendments in California in 2008 and 2010 which took the power to draw legislative districts and the Congress of the States of politicians and to place it in the hands of an independent commission.

While the republican push in Texas to upset the current cards of the congress does not face the constitutional constraints, the Newsom path in California is much more complicated.

A two -thirds majority vote in the Californian legislature dominated by the Democrats would be necessary to hold the referendum.

“The proposal we are advancing with the Legislative Assembly has a trigger only if they advance, to dismantle the protocols that are well established,” said Newsom on Monday. “Will the state of California move forward in nature? The fights? Yes, fire with fire.”
