During the selection of the jury, Routh asked potential jurors from their point of view on the war in Gaza, their position on the United States potentially acquires Greenland while the president floated and how they would act if they were driving and spotted a turtle in the middle of the road.
US District Judge Aileen Cannon, a named against Trump, rejected Roth’s questions as “politically charged” and said they were not necessary for the selection of the jury.
“None of the questions about your list has a rolling. They were out of the basis, sir, and have no relevance for the selection of the jury,” said Cannon. When Roth tried to speak in protest, Cannon warned her not to interrupt.
Routh also said that a former colleague listed on his witnesses list, Eric Zuniga, would not testify in the name of Routh because Zuniga lives in Costa Rica and “loves his freedom and does not want to be arrested or expelled”. Routh then removed the name of Zuniga as a potential witness.

Routh also said that another potential witness he had listed would also be unlikely to appear, due to the trips provided for in Vietnam during the trial.
After the morning session, Cannon asked if there was something else, which prompted Routh to say that he was “still in a situation in the prison where I cannot sleep”.
“I don’t know if they could move to the general population or something,” said Routh.
But Cannon again closed Routh and said that the statement was not appropriate at that time.
Twenty-seven out of the 60 potential jurors said that they had difficulties that would prevent them from participating in the jury for the case of Routh. Meanwhile, Routh said that he had reservations about many potential jurors, but could not identify specific concerns.
Prosecutors say Roth sought to kill Trump for weeks and marked a place in shrubs on September 15, 2024, when a secret service agent detected him by pointing a rifle on Trump while the candidate of the time, then presidential, played golf in his West Palk Country Club. Roth targeted his rifle on the agent, but abandoned his weapon and the scene after the secret service agents opened fire.
