North American Aerospace Defense Command (Norad) said on Wednesday that he had detected Russian planes operating in the Alaska air defense identification area (ADIZ).

Norad identified the plane as two TU-95, which are long-range strategic bombers, and two SU-35, which are advanced hunting jets.

“Russian military planes have remained in international airspace and have not entered a sovereign American or Canadian airspace. This Russian activity in Alaskan Adiz occurs regularly and is not considered a threat,” Norad said in a statement.

Norad said he replied with an E-3, four F-16s and four KC-135 oil trees “to identify and intercept positively in Alaskan Adiz”.
