Texas prosecutor General Ken Paxton launched an investigation into 33 potential non-citizens who would have voted illegally in the general elections of 2024.

Paxton, a Republican who runs a primary challenge in the Senate against Senator John Cornyn, R-Texas, the investigation announced on Tuesday.

In a press release, the Paxton’s office said that it had been informed of the potential illegal votes of the Secretary of State of Texas Jane Nelson. The press release indicates that Nelson was unable to access information only because of an executive decree signed by President Donald Trump in March.

Trump’s decree, entitled “Preserving and protecting the integrity of the American elections”, led the departments of state security and internal security to give all states “access to appropriate systems to verify citizenship or immigration status for people registering to vote or which are already registered”.

The ordinance also ordered the secretary of the DHS, Kristi Noem, to provide the Prosecutor General of the United States Pam Bondi with “complete information on all foreign nationals who indicated on any immigration form that they have recorded or voted in the federal, state or local elections, and will also take all appropriate measures to subject electoral officials or premises concerned.” “”

Part of this prescription involved the safeguarding database of American citizenship and immigration services open in the United States, through which Nelson was able to access information on the alleged illegal vote, according to Paxton’s Declaration.

Trump declared in order that “the free, fair and honest elections not marked by fraud, errors or suspicions are fundamental to maintain our constitutional republic” and “the right of American citizens to have their votes correctly counted and tabuated, without illegal dilution, is vital to determine the legitimate giant of an election.”

In August 2024, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that the state had withdrawn 1.1 million people from its electoral lists, including people who had moved outside the state, died or who were not citizens.

A statement from the Governor’s office said that more than 6,500 people withdrawn from state electoral lists were potential non-citizens. The press release indicates that around 1,930 of non-citizens deleted had a history of voters.

Subsequent report by the Texas Tribune alleged that the governor’s office had inflated the number of non -citizen voters. The Governor’s office, however, said that the suppression process “had been and will continue to be underway.”

“In order to be able to trust the integrity of our elections, the results must be determined by our own citizens – not foreign nationals who violate the law to vote illegally,” said Paxton, adding that “non -citizens should not be allowed to influence the American elections, and I will use the total weight of my office to investigate all electoral fraud.”
