Ramirez responds to criticism, declaring that she is “chapina and American”

Representative Delia Ramirez, D-ill., Pushed back a storm of criticism that broke out on Monday after a remark that she made calls to be denaturalized and deported.

The deputy, born in Chicago, Illinois, described herself as “Chapina and American” and “Guatemala and Chicago, Illinois”.

Ramirez “is the daughter of Guatemah immigrants and an American citizen by birth right,” said the press release which includes the controversial declaration.

She made a comment in Spanish in which she would have said: “I am a proud Guatemalan before being American”, according to a tweet from Theblaze, which was shared by the official account of the Department of Internal Security X.

Ramirez rejected the wave of criticism in a long declaration.

Ramirez said that the honor of his “Guatemalan ancestry” strengthens his “commitment to America”, adding that it is one of the many Americans who represent “the idea of America”.

“We are the living and breathable realization of the idea of America – a place where a multicultural and multiracial democracy can prosper. I am the daughter of immigrants and the daughter of America. I am both chapina and American. I am from Guatemala and Chicago, Illinois.

“Anyone who denies our assertion on this country simply because we dared to honor our diversified heritage and our roots of immigrants only exposes how fragile and weak his own idea is,” concluded Ramirez.
