Illinois Democratic Governor JB Pritzker said that the state “will not remain lazily” if President Donald Trump is heading to deploy the National Guard to Chicago to meet the crime in the windy city.
“Unlike Donald Trump, we hold our promises,” the governor on X on Wednesday. “We will not remain lazily if he decides to send the National Guard to intimidate the Chicagoans.”
“The action will be welcomed with an answer,” he continued.
Pritzker’s comments are only the last of his recent quarrel with Trump because the federal government weighs whether to send troops to Chicago.

Last week, the governor said that there was no crime urgency in Chicago and Trump “tries to make a crisis, to politicize Americans who serve in uniform and to continue to abuse his power to distract the pain he causes workers’ families.”
“The safety of the inhabitants of Illinois is still my absolute priority,” said Pritzker on Saturday. “There is no emergency that justifies the President of the United States to the federalization of the Illinois National Guard, to deploy the National Guard of other states or to send soldiers in active service within our own borders. We will continue to follow the law, to defend the sovereignty of our State and to protect the inhabitants of Illinois.”
On Monday, Pritzker said that the potential federal deployment was “unconstitutional” and “non -American”.
“Donald Trump wants to use the military to occupy an American city, punish its dissidents and score political points,” he said. “If it happened in another country, we would have no trouble calling it what it is – a dangerous seizure of power.”
The mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, also a democrat, cited data showing that violent crimes have decreased in the past year, including homicides and flights that plunge more than 30%, and shots down by almost 40%. Although the crime is still increasing compared to 2021, according to statistics published by the Chicago police.

“The problem with the president’s approach is that he is not coordinated, useless and unrelated,” Johnson said on Friday. “The illegal deployment of the National Guard in Chicago has the potential to inflamm tensions between residents and the police when we know that confidence between the police and the residents is fundamental to building safer communities.”
“When we retaliate against tyranny, the united people will still prevail,” said the mayor later.
Other Illinois leaders have also criticized the potential decision to send troops to Chicago.
Trump responded Tuesday to Pritzker and Johnson, writing in an article on social networks that the governor is “incompetent” and that the mayor is “not better”.
“A truly deadly weekend in Chicago,” wrote Trump on Truth Social. “6 dead, 27 injured in the crime of the city. The governor struck by Panique Pritzker says that the crime is under control, while in fact it is just the opposite. He is an incompetent governor who should call me to get help. Mayor Johnson is not better. Making Chicago Grand!”
