Facilities designed to discourage abortion welcomed tens of thousands of additional customers following the Supreme Court’s landmark Dobbs ruling, according to a study released Monday.
The Charlotte Lozier Institute, the research arm of pro-life organization SBA Pro-Life America, found in its annual report report that the facilities, often called pregnancy resource centers, surpassed one million clients for the first time in 2024.
That total is up from 974,965 in 2022, when the high court struck down the federal right to abortion and put the issue in the hands of the states. The study looked at data from about 3,000 establishments across the country.
Centers have invested nearly half a billion dollars to support their clients, and the monetary value of physical goods, such as diapers, strollers and cribs, provided to clients has increased by 48% compared to 2022.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA Pro-Life America, told reporters Monday that the centers are a response to the prevalence of abortion since Dobbs, which the Charlotte Lozier Institute attributes, at least in part, to easy access to abortion pills, which people can buy through the mail.
Pregnancy resource centers have “become even more important, especially with the horrible national policy we have regarding abortion medications, which has led to an increase in the number of abortions to approximately 1.1 million,” Dannenfelser said.
“You have a Planned Parenthood organization and a large anti-abortion movement that, when faced with the problem of addiction, says when they walk into a clinic or when they go online, ‘Here’s your pill. Have a good life,'” Dannenfelser said.

Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest abortion provider.
“Pregnancy centers, with the support of caregivers, address the roots of the problem, the addiction, the domestic violence, the homelessness, the problem of just physically going to work to be able to do your job and provide for your family, the issue of finishing school, the fact that you need more resources and community and help at a time when you want to say yes to your child and you also want to say yes to your own life and its trajectory,” she declared.
Pregnancy centers have faced criticism, largely from the left, that they mislead their clients and donors into believing they are not strongly opposed to abortion and mislead their clients about their ability to practice medicine. A lawsuit centered on this fight is underway in the Supreme Court; The High Court will hear oral arguments in the case next month.
The report shows that the clinics offer a range of services, from providing tangible items to adoption agency services, counseling and a variety of medical services, including abortion pill reversal, pregnancy tests, ultrasounds and STD screenings.

The Charlotte Lozier Institute also said it found that more than 60% of women who had an abortion would have preferred to give birth if they had had more emotional and financial support.
“When we have the courage to ask the questions of real women in the real world, that’s what we see time and time again,” Dannenfelser said.
