A Kentucky businessman trying to replace former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., is taking aim at the left’s woke trend of proposing “land acknowledgments,” arguing that the narrative behind it is misleading and “un-American.”
Nate Morris, a multimillionaire and former CEO of one of Kentucky’s largest software companies, claimed in a video posted on Meanwhile, Morris called the trend “yet another attempt by the left to weaken America from within.”
“We bought Alaska from Russia and Louisiana from France,” Morris emphasized. “We have negotiated, traded and signed treaties covering millions of acres. Compare that to the way Europe, Asia or the Middle East have moved their borders for thousands of years…the left wants to judge America by standards that no other nation in history could meet.”

Meanwhile, Morris lambasted those on the left who engage in these land acknowledgments for not even knowing the history of the Native Americans they claim to want to defend.
“The Apaches and the Sioux – they didn’t like Disney movies – were warlike nations. Hell, even the Comanches were cave dwellers in Wyoming until they acquired horses and conquered half the United States,” Morris pointed out, adding that it’s strange that “all the people who try to recognize this land” don’t leave it.
Morris added that anyone who tells you America was “stolen,” not “conquered,” is either trying to “rewrite history” or “make America weaker.”
“This issue was debated and settled by ancestors who believed in private industry, law and order – manifest destiny,” the Senate candidate argued.

As a Republican, Morris likely has many supporters who agree with his view of left-wing “land acknowledgments,” but even some Democrats have denounced the trend.

Several months after Republicans unleashed a red wave in the 2024 elections, veteran Democratic Party strategist James Carville blasted his own party when the Democratic National Committee (DNC) opened a high-profile meeting in Minneapolis with a “land recognition“, calling it the kind of move that cost Democrats elections.
“Please stop this, in the name of a just and merciful God,” Carville pleaded. “Don’t you see what’s going on? Don’t you see where this has gotten us? For God’s sake, lady. And what is (DNC Chairman) Ken Martin doing doing this? You only have one job, kid! And that’s winning!”

Meanwhile, liberal talk show host Bill Maher also weighed on fashion before this year’s November elections, which ultimately saw more Democratic victories than Republican ones, but shortly after Republicans hit their red wave in the 2024 elections. He agreed with Carville that the move could hurt Democrats’ elections.
“Democrats, if you ever want to win an election again, the most important first step is to stop doing this,” Maher said during a March monologue on his show “Real Time with Bill Maher.”
“Either return the land or close it,” Maher continued. “Look, I understand the desire to right the wrongs of the past, especially when you take the moral high ground and then build an 8,000 square foot mansion on it.”
