Pope Leo XIV says he prays for Charlie Kirk after his assassination

Pope Leo XIV told the new American ambassador to the Holy See, Brian Burch, whom he prayed for conservative activist Charlie Kirk, as well as his wife and children, after his murder last week in UTAH, the Vatican said on Tuesday.

Leo also expressed his concern about political violence and responded to the need “to refrain from rhetoric and exploitation which leads to polarization rather than a dialogue,” said Vatican Matteo Bruni spokesman in a statement, according to the Vatican News.

The Pope’s remarks came on Saturday, when he received the ambassador in an audience to receive his skills titles, marking the first meeting between the two.

“The pope confirmed that he was praying for Charlie Kirk,” said Bruni.

Kirk, the 31-year-old co-founder of USA turning point, was Turned and killed During an event on the University of Utah Valley campus in Orem on September 10. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition before he was said later dead.

The alleged shooter was identified as Tyler Robinson, 22, whose family persuaded him to surrender after a two -day man hunt. Robinson was accused of aggravated murder in the murder of Kirk.

The pontiff also sent a telegram message offering condolences last month after a shooting at the Annunciation Catholic Church of Minnesota, making two children and 18 other injured, including more than a dozen children from the school.

However, the Pope did not send a telegram to the assassination of Kirk.

Burch organized a welcome diplomatic reception on Monday, saying that it was a “remarkable moment to be in Rome”, with the first American pope.

The ambassador spoke of his papal audience, noting the ambassadors, cardinals and guests united that the pontiff “reminded me that he is not an American pope. He is a Pope of America for the world”.
