The Pakistani government and Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban agreed to a temporary 48-hour ceasefire on Wednesday after fresh clashes erupted this week and saw more than a dozen civilians and soldiers killed.
The terms of the ceasefire remain unclear and neither Pakistan nor the Taliban’s foreign ministry immediately responded to questions from Fox News Digital, although reports Wednesday suggested Pakistan’s foreign ministry was making efforts to engage in dialogue to resolve the complex conflict.

Pakistan and Afghanistan blamed each other for why fighting broke out over the weekend on the shared border – resulting in the worst conflict both sides have seen since the Taliban seized Kabul in 2021, Reuters reported.
Regular clashes have long occurred along the 1,600-mile-long border over land disputes, but since the Taliban takeover in 2021, Islamabad has accused the Taliban of providing sanctuary to anti-Pakistan militants.
The Taliban claimed Wednesday that Pakistani forces had launched attacks in the town of Spin Boldak in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, which lies right on the shared border, and said more than a dozen civilians had been killed and 100 others injured.

Pakistan also claimed that four of its civilians were injured in attacks by Taliban forces in Chaman, the district just opposite Spin Boldak in Afghanistan, Reuters reported.
Fresh fighting between troops and militants reportedly broke out in a second area of Pakistan’s northern Orakzai district, where Islamabad said six Pakistani paramilitary soldiers were killed and two security officials injured.
Nine militants were also reportedly killed after violence reportedly erupted during a search by Pakistani forces in an area attacked by militants last week, during which 11 Pakistani soldiers were killed.

Reports on social media also suggest that a Pakistani intelligence office was hit in an incident in Peshawar, a city just north of Pakistan’s Orakzai district, on Wednesday, although Fox News Digital could not independently confirm this.
President Donald Trump suggested last week that he could help end the conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan, although neither side has said he has a role in the current truce and the White House did not immediately respond to questions from Fox News Digital on the subject.
