An escaped monkey in Mississippi was shot and killed Sunday morning by a mother who told The Associated Press she feared for her children’s safety.
Associated Press reports Jessica Bond Ferguson — A mother of five who lives in Heidelberg, Mississippi — was alerted to a monkey running in the yard outside their home by her 16-year-old son this morning…and when she looked, she said the monkey was only 60 feet from her house.
Ferguson told the outlet that she fired her gun… “I did what any other mother would do to protect her children. I shot him and he stood there, and I shot again, and he backed up and that’s when he fell.”

Thirteen people were detained by authorities, and five of them were shot after being sighted by a supervisor Wrong claim The monkeys were infected with coronavirus, herpes and hepatitis C — authorities later clarified they were not — but three of them escaped into the wild.
Authorities found and captured one of the other three monkeys on Sunday as well… so, it appears only one monkey is still on the loose.
