Mea Culpa for Gatsby Post last week which did not include the real book I was talking about, and thank you for reporting it. The book and the description were recovered after momentarily eliminated existence, and you can find the full post here. Avant at the choice of this week!
Most of the new collections I have read came from the field of science fiction and fantasy because it was my shooting and my professional specialization for many years. From time to time, I got out of my comfort zone to explore the wider world of books, and that’s how I take this collection of news. I do not even remember what, exactly, captivated me enough to choose this title, but what I know is that the choice of a book outside of SF / F was both exciting and intimidating because I knew that what I chose would be one of the few that I could place in my reading program. It was perhaps the covering of the striking book, the attraction of a new author-for-me already receiving so much praise, or the premise of stories about women and black girls who pursue “a momentary stay of being good”. I am happy with everything that made me take this book because he held his place Tippy on my list of new favorite news collections.

The secret life of church ladies By deesha philyaw
One has the impression that Deesha philyaw has been a must in the literary world for ages but The secret life of church ladies was her debut in 2020. She broke out on stage with this collection, winning a place as the National Book Award for Fiction Finalist, and she was in the mix with bookish podcasts and literary scholarships. She has a singular voice and he shines in these stories on black women existing outside the convention and expectations.
I remember the stereotypes of black women on the screens and in the books of my youth, and I deeply think that it is still the beginning with regard to the will of the cultural industries and institutions to support and promote stories that embrace the multitude that black women contain. This does not surprise me that this collection was published by a university press. This is why the books that make the thing and that find success are always rare and precious. The characters in this collection see their faith shaken by the impiety of the pious, to handle and explore their sexuality, and to live in a way that could make certain church ladies. But they live And the artistic talent of Philyaw images them with the complexity and the depth they deserve in very few pages. I felt that I knew these characters as friends at the end of each story, and this is one of those rare collections where each story caught my attention. I can’t wait for Philyaw’s first novel, The real confessions of the first lady FreemanTo publish in 2026.

During the writing on the superb books of books, there is one thing that I noted several times: the collections of news have some of the most innovative, memorable and catchy covers of all. Why then? Perhaps part of this is because new collections are a more difficult sale to the average reader, so the first marketing line must be for the bookstore navigator, whether they are traveling or offline. Perhaps part of this is that many large collections of new ones come from smaller presses, so push the limits with the design is part of what is possible because there are fewer stakeholders to please in the process. It is perhaps also simply that the collections of news, by nature of their diversity, invite more creativity in the process of covering the coverage.
Whatever the reason or the reasons, I suspect that whoever appreciates good book cover is there.
Let’s take a look at some of the news covers of new books that have struck this year, as well as on some of the upcoming covers of the collections that you want to make on your TBR as soon as possible. If you read this when the play publishes in mid-May, know that you will read it in time to participate in the month of the news. Any month can be a month of short history, of course, but can give additional reasons to dive into a fiction the size of a bite.
As always, warnings abound here. It is still unnecessarily difficult to find cover designers and artists for books of books, especially if you don’t have the book in your hand to check. Many publishers still do not put this information on the destination pages of these books, so it takes good research on Google and a lot of luck to dig up names on credit.

If you are looking for a collection of dark stories, this cover will not direct you in the wrong direction. It is an squirrel which was clearly launched in the title of the book, and it looks completely imperturbable by all this. There are a lot of good movements in this design, especially since it is very simplistic.
