First on Fox: People who do not compete in English may be excluded from taking the American citizenship test as part of a new republican proposal from the Chamber.
Randy Fine representative, R-Fla., Plans to introduce a bill which would oblige the citizenship test being fully carried out in English, Fox News Digital learned.
There are several different components on the examination of American citizenship. While most parties are only in English, the civic test – in which the applicant is asked 10 questions out of 100 on the history and government of the United States – can currently be taken in other languages, provided that certain criteria are met.
The Plais Bill would eliminate these exceptions.

“The fact that candidates for American citizens can currently use an interpreter to pass the naturalization test undermines the idea of assimilation in American culture. If you want to live in an English -speaking country, you should be able to speak English, end,” said Fine Fox News Digital.
“My bill will force all candidates to pass the naturalization test exclusively in English, because both metaphorically and literally, all those who enter our country in order to stay should speak our language.”

The current law stipulates that people aged 50 or over who lived in the United States as a permanent resident for at least 20 years are authorized to take the civic party in another language.
People aged 55 or over who have been permanent American residents for at least 15 years have the same exemption.
The two groups of people are required to wear an interpreter commonly English and their mother tongue on the exam.

The bill would probably come up against the opposition of immigrant defense groups.
Fine’s proposal comes after President Donald Trump signed a decree in March by naming English as the country’s official language – the first time in its history that the United States has done so.
