National guard heading to Memphis while Trump extends anti-crime efforts

President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he would deploy the National Guard to Memphis, Tenn. Then, while he would continue his anti-crime initiative.

The president made this announcement during an appearance on “Fox & Friends”, adding that the deployment would not be limited to the National Guard and could include the army if necessary.

“Memphis is deeply disturbed,” said Trump. “We are going to repair it as we did Washington.”

Trump admitted that he would have “preferred to go to Chicago”. Clashes involving the Trump administration, the governor of Illinois JB Pritzker and the mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, probably explain why the National Guard is not going to the windy city.

Trump told “Fox & Friends” that the mayor of Memphis, Paul Young, Democrat and Tenn. Governor Bill Lee, a republican, was both on board the plan for the National Guard to be sent to Bluff City.

“We agree with Governor Lee that MEMPHIS effective support comes from focused initiatives that provide results as we have seen with the FBI, state soldiers and other law implementation partnerships. What we need most are financial resources for intervention and prevention, additional patrol agents and case support to strengthen MPD inquests”. Fox 13A subsidiary based in Fox News Memphis.

“ They embarrass us

Representative David Kustoff, R-Tenn., Who represents Memphis, expressed his support for the administration’s decision.

“I support President Trump’s decision to send the National Guard to Memphis. I thank the president for his commitment to limit violent crimes. It is important that the long -term success in Memphis has federal agents and additional federal agents and federal agents who can secure these resources in conjunction with Fox News.

Trump’s announcement of a deployment of the National Guard comes just after Lee moved to send 50 soldiers from the Tennessee road patrol to help the Memphis police service.

“While FBI and THP operations are continuing, we are actively discussing the next phase of our strategy to accelerate the positive momentum that is already underway, and nothing is outside table,” said the governor Fox 13. “Each Memphien deserves to live in a safe neighborhood.”

Trump started a major anti-crime thrust in Washington, DC during the summer and deployed troops of the National Guard in the national capital. While the Republicans argue that the troops made DC safer, the Democrats castigated the federal takeover of the city.

The president’s decision to deploy national guard troops to DC was one of his efforts to federalize local police forces through the Home Rule Act last month, and is part of an increase in federal law enforcement agents that have patrol the streets since.

Despite the other members of his party opposing the presence of the National Guard, the mayor of DC Muriel Bowser acknowledged that this decision reduced crime in the district. She even went so far as to sign a decree, encouraging more in -depth cooperation with federal officials on crime. It remains to be seen if the deployment of Memphis will have the same results.
