Almirola struck the hard wall while Hill turned into the grass before going up the track and contacting the wall too. Hill was affected by a five -laps penalty due to the controversial blow. He told his team on the radio that it had not been intentional.

Almirola did not agree.

“It was definitively intentional,” Almirola told the CW after being released from the interior care center, via nascar.com. “He blocked me three times. I finally dropped him in (turn) 3. He suffered damage to the nose, so he was really slow in the corners. It was time to leave. I mean, we come at nine, and the leaders are starting to put a space for us, so it’s time to leave.”

Almirola was not injured, but he said that the accident reminded him of a 2017 wreck in which he had broken his back.

“It was violent, to be completely honest,” he added. “This is one of the most difficult successes I took in my career Nascar. The impact seemed very similar to what I broke my back. I would be very interested to see the data of the black box of this accident, but it was vicious, and it is simply incompetent.”

Hill told his team that he couldn’t hang on to the car while he was standing out.

The owner of the team, Richard Childress, defended Hill and does not think he should be suspended on it.

“(Nascar) did not do anything to (Austin Cindric). He destroyed (ty dillon) and admitted it, led him to the right back and destroyed him in Cota,” said Childress, via Motorsport. “That’s who you are. We are a team of blue passes. They cause us problems all the time.”
