The pilot of the Nascar Xfinity series, Austin Hill, sparked a massive wreck in Watkins Glen International on Saturday afternoon and took the heat of the others.
The incident came with nine laps to go to the race. Hill, Michael McDowell, Zane Smith and Sam Mayer were one of those who pursued leader Connor Zilisch. Hill and the rest of the peloton came out of Tour 5 when he entered McDowell’s back.

The accident involved several pilots while Hill took the blame for having run at the back of McDowell.
“Just two guys going there. Nothing malicious, as much as everyone wants to sit there and try to do it more than it is,” said Hill, Via Fronttrech. “It was only two guys running. I was trying to go through the 88 (Connor Zilisch) as quickly as I could because the 88 was moving away from us, and I thought we might have a chance to race with him and run for the victory there. I had a massive carousel race.
“I thought in a way that I was trying to catch (McDowell) off guard and go to his left side.”

McDowell said Hill hit him for the last two laps before the accident.
“He was sure for me. I mean, there is no way that he was going to put himself next to me,” said McDowell, via Nascar.com. “I properly circumvented it on these restarts, and there at the end, as I said, I will have to have a better view. But for me, he was not next to me. I just went to my rear bumper, turned me aside.
“I do not speak as if he intentionally hung me. He does not need a penalty for that. Just, there was no way that he was going to finish the pass there, and he just made the decision not to raise and turn me – but it is not the same thing as a hook on the right to an oval. This is not what I say, so I don’t want it to be communicated.

We do not know if there will be an additional discipline for Hill. Nascar suspended him for a race for provoking an accident at Iowa a few weeks ago.
