The House of Representatives adopted a pair of bills aimed at repressing crime in Washington, DC on Tuesday afternoon, with dozens of democrats voting against each.

The first bill advanced through the Chamber was DC criminal reforms to immediately make a law on security, or the DC crimes law.

He adopted the Chamber by a 240-179 vote, with all the “non” votes from the Democrats. Only 31 Democrats voted in favor of the bill.

It would also prohibit judges in most cases of being able to transmit penalties lower than the mandatory minimum indicated for minors.

The legislators of the Chamber also advanced a bill led by representative Brandon Gill, R-Texas, who would make the juveniles as young as 14 eligible to be judged, if they were accused of certain violent crimes.

This age limit is currently at 16. The bill covers crimes, including murder, first degree sexual abuse, first -degree burglary, skilled theft or assault with the intention of committing such an offense, according to a press release on the Gill website.

This last bill adopted the House by a vote of 225-203. Even fewer Democrats, only eight years old, voted with the Republicans on the measure.

Representative Thomas Massie, R-Ky., Also voted against the bill.

It comes a few days after the expiration of the 30 -day DC police by President Donald Trump, without moving the congress or the White House to put pressure for an extension.

Trump reported that he could always extend his grip on local police, although he has shown that little appetite to do so.

“We have practically no crime at DC at the moment, and we will keep it like that. It is the capital of our country. We will keep it like that we will federalize it if we owe it. But we have no more because it is in such great shape,” the president told journalists on Monday.

Meanwhile, Mayor Muriel Bowser made an order earlier this month, asking the local police to cooperate with several federal law organizations, although immigration and customs application (ICE) have been excluded from the list.

The Democrats in the Congress responded with fierce opposition to the repression of Trump against DC, including the non -voting representative of the capital in the House, del. Eleanor Holmes-Norton, DD.C.

The leader of the minority of the Hakeem Jeffries room, DN.Y., castigated the legislation which was adopted Tuesday in comments to Fox News Digital.

“These are not bills that are serious efforts to combat public security in the Washington, DC region,” said Jeffries.

But the Republicans positioned them as remedies necessary for what they consider as a lax criminal justice system.

“It is clear to the members of the committee and the public that DC on crime policies have failed to ensure the safety of DC residents and visitors,” said the Chamber James Comer’s supervisory committee, R-LY, specifically said Donalds’ bill. “Our capital cannot continue to let criminals wander freely in the streets and expect this crime crisis to end.”

The congress has a large competence on DC policies taking into account its status as a federal city, despite the 1973 law on the rule of the house which also grants the city the capacity to have its own local government.

Bowser, a Democrat, had previously recognized that DC crime had been lowered since the Trump administration involvement.

On Thursday, she is expected to testify before the chamber’s surveillance committee.
