MLB News: Edwin Diaz Open from MLB Mets to World Baseball Classic Return

New York Mets Star Edwin Diaz has undergone a major 2023 worldwide classic injury, but that will not prevent him from playing in 2026 of the international tournament.
Diaz, 31, was injured while celebrating the victory of the Puerto Rico team over the Dominican Republic. He torn his patellar tendon with the right knee and missed the whole season.

“I was not injured in pitch,” said DĂaz via the New York Post Last week. “This is something that can happen to me or everywhere. If I tangled, I might be a little frightened (to come back).”

Diaz was not fully committed to playing for Puerto Rico, but said it was opened there.
“For the moment, I would play if I was lucky to play. I would play to represent my country,” said Diaz.

Triple All-Star said that if he had injured the pitch, he could see playing in the World Baseball Classic differently.

“But I just want to go there and represent my country and have fun.” Said Diaz.
The Diaz Mets teammate, Star Shastop Francisco Lindor, also played for the Puerto Rico team. Diaz said that if he had the chance to play for Puerto Rico, he would like to play with Lindor again.

Diaz was turned off for the food this season and has made the National League Stars team. In 40 games this season, Diaz had an MPM of 1.55 with a file of 5-0 and 21 stops.
Diaz and the Mets (59-44) start a series of three games with the Giants of San Francisco (54-49) Friday at 10:15 pm.
