Minneapolis Immigration Raid targets 1,000 cases, finds 275 fraud instances

First on Fox: The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), this month carried out an unprecedented large-scale survey in Minneapolis, focused on those who committed marriage and asylum fraud, this month.

In a mission known as the Operation Twin Shield, the agents targeted 1,000 cases, striking at the gates of more than 900 sites to conduct interviews and examine the immigration criteria. Coordinating with immigration and customs application (ICE) and the FBI, they found problems of fraud, non-compliance or public security and national security in 275 cases.

This is the first operation after a new rule finalized earlier this month allowed the USCIS to expand its law application.

In 44 of these cases, immigrants were referred to the ice or gave an appearance notice (NTA) before the court. Two were detained on site. The others are still being studied.

In an example, an immigrant engaged in a simulated marriage with an elderly American citizen and submitted the citizen to “the abuse and the exploitation of the elderly”, according to USCIS. Another immigrant admitted that he had made a Kenya death certificate for $ 100 to falsely claim the dismissal of a marriage – the spouse in question was alive, living in Minneapolis and the mother of five of his children.

Other cases included a petitioner who confessed to marriage fraud only after taking the oath that her marriage was legitimate, and another implying an immigrant who had exceeded a waiver of the visa, was the son of an alleged terrorist and had already been denied fraud services.

USCIS director Joseph Edlow described the operation as part of a broader change in the posture of application of President Donald Trump. “USCIS declares a total war against immigration fraud. We will relentlessly continue all the people involved in the underpinth of the integrity of our immigration system and our laws. With the help of ICE and FBI, the USCIS Twin Shield operation was a huge success – hundreds of bad players will be held responsible,” said Edlow.

The operation was carried out between September 19 and 28 through Minneapolis – St. Paul region. USCIS said it was the first time that the agency has committed resources on this scale in a single geographical area and that more repression could follow.

The agency underlined the executive decree 14161, which orders federal agencies to protect the United States from foreign terrorists and other public security threats, such as the framework guiding the operation. The officials stressed that, unlike the Biden administration, USCIS officers are now authorized to examine the candidates in depth and to prosecute fraud wherever he is met.

The overvoltage of Minneapolis marks the first time that USCIS has deployed resources on this scale in a single region, and leadership suggested that it could become a model of future repression in other parts of the country.
