EXCLUSIVE: While the deadline for financing the government of September 30 is looming, the Trump administration warns that millions of Americans may lose coverage of flood insurance if the Democrats refuse to support a expense bill sentenced to the Chamber which also extends the National Program for Foundings (NFIP).
The White House supports continuous resolution (CR) approved by the Republicans of the Chamber, which would avoid closing and would reautorize the NFIP.
Administration officials said they had worked to ensure that NFIP was part of the current financing package, reflecting what they call the urgency to protect millions of guards during the hurricanes season.
Democrats said they will not support the measure, citing wider expenditure disputes. Trump administration officials argue that the deadlocks put owners, the housing market and the recovery funds after the loss as the cutting -edge storm season arrives.

“In an exclusive statement to Fox News Digital, a White House official said:` `NFIP is a vital program used by millions of Americans, and this is not a difficult call to extend it – that is exactly why the administration supports the CR adopted by the house that would. Unfortunately, Democrats are happy to close the government and injure the many thousands of Americans who have repercussions in the process.
According to figures from the administration examined by Fox News Digital, a period of time in the NFIP authorization could disrupt around 1,300 sales of goods each day. This represents around 40,000 closures in a single month, all in areas where flood insurance is necessary to obtain a mortgage.
More than 400,000 policies are expected to expire in October. Officials say that around 152,000 of them have been prepared, but more than 250,000 households could still lose coverage if the program is stalling.

Administration officials also underlined October 2024 as a warning sign. This month has experienced more than 427,000 new or renewed policies. About 41,000 owners have bought new policies while around 33,000 have dropped coverage, leaving a net gain of almost 9,000. Managers warn that similar growth could collapse if NFIP is exploding.
Administration officials told Fox News Digital that FEMA currently had $ 2.6 billion to pay valid complaints, including $ 1.5 billion in the National Flood Insurance Fund and $ 1.1 billion in reserves. But they warned that the agency would not be able to borrow additional money from the Treasury if a major disaster exceeded these reservations, a scenario which they described as “dangerous and avoidable”.
The National Association of House Manufacturers (NAHB) has echoed these concerns.
“The past disturbances of the NFIP caused immediate and generalized negative impacts on properties sales, the value of houses and consumer confidence,” Nahb said in an exclusive declaration at Fox News Digital.

“Sales of houses would cease in areas where flood insurance is compulsory to obtain a mortgage. What the housing market now needs is stability and certainty. Nahb calls on the Chamber to act quickly to continue to finance the operations of the federal government, including the extension of the NFIP.”
The NFIP has a long history of Stopgap extensions. Since 2017, Congress has re -authorized the program more than 30 times, often thanks to short -term measures. Legislators have generally rendered retroactive coverage to prevent permanent gaps, but even brief gaps blocked real estate closings and left the owners in the limbo. The program currently serves around 4.5 million guards nationwide.

Unless the legislators conclude an agreement, FEMA will not be forbidden to sell or renew the flood insurance policies from October 1, a forfeiture that could leave millions of owners in limbo while Washington rushed to a closure. Administration officials argue that the risk is particularly acute this year while the hurricanes season continues.
FEMA, Schumer and Jeffries did not immediately respond to the request for comments from Fox News Digital.
