The new deadline of President Donald Trump so that Russia ends the conflict with Ukraine is an “step towards the war”, according to former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev.
Medvedev, now Vice-President of the Security Council of Russia, warned that Trump’s announcement on Monday according to which Russia was to end the conflict with Ukraine in 10 to 12 days would not end well for the United States
“Trump plays Ultimatum’s game with Russia: 50 days or 10 … He should remember 2 things: 1. Russia is not Israel or even Iran. 2. Each new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war. Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with his own country,” said Medvedev in an article on X on Monday. “Do not go down on the road to Joe Sleepy!”

While Trump announced on July 14 that he would disconnect “serious prices” against Russia if Moscow had not accepted a peace agreement within 50 days, Trump said on Monday that the expectation of this period was futile in the middle of negotiations in a standstill.
“I will make a new deadline, about 10 to 10 or 12 days from today,” Trump told Scotland journalists. “There is no reason to wait. It was 50 days. I wanted to be generous, but we just don’t see any progress.”
Trump’s remarks are his frustration towards Putin in recent weeks in the midst of progress towards peace between Russia and Ukraine, and just a day after Russia launched more than 300 drones, four cruise missiles and three ballistic missiles in Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

Trump called Putin to provide lip service during their discussions without taking proactive measures to end the war. Consequently, Trump said that he had become “disappointed” by the Russian chief and that he was “no longer interested in speaking” with Putin.
“He speaks – we have such beautiful conversations, such a respectful and pleasant conversation. And then people die the following night,” said Trump on Monday.
After Trump’s announcement on the reduction of the deadline for a peace agreement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Trump for his “clear position and his determination” to resolve the conflict.
“I thank President Trump for his concentration on the safeguarding of lives and the end of this horrible war,” said Zelenskyy in an article on X on Monday. “Ukraine remains attached to peace and will work tirelessly with the United States to make our two countries safer, stronger and more prosperous.”

Although Trump historically boasts of having a solid relationship with Putin, he has publicly expressed increased frustration with Putin in recent weeks when war rages between Russia and Ukraine.
“We get a lot of bulls — We launched by Putin, if you want to know the truth,” said Trump at a meeting of the cabinet on July 8. “It is very nice to us all the time, but it turns out that it does not make sense.”
