After the Tom Homan border tsar promised to “flood the area” with ice agents in response to the shooting of an American customs officer and border protection (CBP) in New York, mayor Eric Adams replied if he cooperates with the repression of the Trump administration.

Adams said he would support all efforts to “deal with dangerous people like this person who has shot an innocent agent of customs and border patrols”.

“If he wants to help us continue these individuals, I welcome him,” he said, adding, “if it will be to go after the everyday people who try to end the way to be a citizen, I don’t think we should do it.”

Adams, who presents himself to his re -election as an independence, approached the shooting at a press conference on Monday. He said that he had visited the injured officer and that he is “extremely angry that we have a customs and border patrol agent who is in the hospital because a person who should not have been on our street was on our street.”

The CBP officer is currently hospitalized in a stable state.

In response to the Secretary of Internal Security, Kristi Noem, distinguishing him as being responsible for the shooting due to the New York sanctuary laws, Adams said: “I have nothing to do with the rules that are put in place. I only make the rules materialize.”

He blamed the laws on the reform of criminal guarantees adopted by former governor of New York Andrew Cuomo, who also presents himself for the mayor as an independent. He declared that the reform of the guarantees adopted under Cuomo created a “rotating criminal justice system” which allowed people such as the shooters to get back on the street.

“You know how indignantly I am due to the laws on the reform of Andrew’s surety on the way we have this rotating door criminal justice system,” he said.

“I am very clear. I have always been clear,” he continued. “Stop the system of rotating doors, continue the dangerous migrants and asylum seekers who are here and allow people who work hard in this city to continue their lives while they are going through the process.”

The mayor also addressed mixed reports on his relationship with President Donald Trump and the administration, saying: “Do you confuse me. Do you know?”

“When they say that I do a good job, you attack me, saying that they never criticize me and that I never criticize them, although we have taken the administration in court more than any mayor of the country,” he said. “And when they say that I do something wrong, you say, why don’t you annoy that they said that I said that I did something wrong. You can’t have both ways. You know, we are not joined in the hip.”

“But when they mention my name of the good things I do, you all say that I am in their pocket, I am under their thumb. As, I mean, which one is it? I am a little confused here. You know, they have their point of view, I have my prospects, and then we sometimes get together.”

The CBP officer was said to have been shot in the face and the forearm in the Manhattan riverside park on Saturday evening in an attempted theft qualified by two criminal illegal immigrants. Two suspects, Dominican nationals Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez and Cristian Aybar Berroa, were arrested in connection with the shooting.

Noem said that Aybar-Berroa had a criminal record in New York and that prisoners “were ignored” due to Adams Sanctuary City policies.

Meanwhile, the socialist candidate of the mayor Zohran Mamdani, the candidate for the town hall of the Democratic Party, remained silent on the shooting.

Mamdani’s publications and social media website show no public declaration on the issue, which has become a new national and has sparked a broader discussion on the border policies of President Joe Biden and the criticism of sanctuary cities.

The militant and republican candidate for the town hall Curtis Sliwa commented the incident on his account X, saying: “A violent illegal foreigner may have supported the trigger, but it was the reckless policies of Eric Adams who created the conditions for this to happen. He certainly has blood on his hands.”

Sliwa also said: “I am the only candidate on the voting bulletin which opposes the status of the city of the sanctuary. Adams, Cuomo and Mamdani all support him.”
