Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., announced Friday evening that she would resign her congressional seat, a week after President Donald Trump publicly withdrew his support for the outspoken Georgia lawmaker.

In a long statement published onGreene spoke of her growing disillusionment with Washington politics, denouncing what she called a corrupt “political-industrial complex” that she said uses Americans as “pawns in a never-ending game of division.”

“Americans are being used by the political-industrial complex of both political parties, election cycle after election cycle, to elect the side that can convince Americans to hate the other side more,” Greene wrote. “And the results are always the same: Nothing ever gets better for the average American, male or female.”

Greene said she “never found her place” in Washington and was leaving Congress to “fight for the people of this country in a different way.”

“I believe in term limits and do not think Congress should be a lifelong career or assisted living facility,” Greene wrote. “My sole goal and desire has always been to hold the Republican Party accountable to the promises it makes to the American people and put America first, and I have fought against Democrats’ harmful policies like the Green New Deal, dangerous and deadly border policies, and the trans agenda on children and against women.”

Greene criticized her own party’s leadership for what she called a “marginalized” majority, more focused on a “safe campaign mode of re-election” than governing.

She accused GOP leaders of ignoring her legislative efforts, including bills to make English America’s official language, criminalize gender transition procedures for minors and eliminate H-1B visas that she says replace American jobs.

“My bills…are just collecting dust,” she said. “It’s like that with most bills introduced by members of Congress: the President never brings them to a vote.”

Her announcement comes amid political fallout following Trump’s decision last week to withdraw his support, calling Greene “wacky” and “a raving lunatic.”

Greene, once one of President Trump’s staunchest defenders, acknowledged that his recent public breakup was “hurtful” but said his faith and beliefs remain intact.

“My heart remains filled with joy, my life is filled with happiness, and my true beliefs remain unchanged because my worth is not defined by a man, but rather by God who created everything in existence,” she wrote.

“I will be resigning from my position with my last day being January 5, 2026,” she wrote. “I’m going back to the people I love.”

With Greene’s resignation, a special election will be called in Georgia’s 14th District, which the Cook’s Political Report rate as “Solid R.”
