In a historical appointment which reshapes almost two centuries of tradition, the lieutenant-general Michael J. Borgschulte, the lieutenant-general of Marine Corps, was exploited to be the next director of the American Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

If he is confirmed by the Senate, he will become the first navy to occupy the first position in the 180 years in the history of the Academy.

This decision was announced on Friday by the defense secretary Pete Hegseth as part of a broader list of military leadership appointments. Borgschulte is currently deputy commander of labor and reserve affairs at the head office of the Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia. He graduated in 1991 of the Naval Academy.

The appointment comes in the middle of an unexpected leadership mixture. The vice-admiral Yvette Davids, who took command of the academy last year, was nominated for renown and reallowing to the Pentagon. It should become deputy chief of naval operations for operations, plans, strategy and development of the fight against war (N3 / N5 / N7), the expectation of the approval of the Senate and a derogation from the congress.

“I am honored to be nominated,” said Davids in a statement. “I can’t wait to continue serving alongside the strongest fighters in America.”

Marine secretary John C. Phelan praised the two officers. He called Borgschulte as “decorated combat leader” with “a strategic insight” and congratulated Davids for his “strategic vision” and “operational depth”.

Phelan also noted the importance of appointment, calling it as a powerful signal of “naval integration” while a navy is preparing to direct the training institution of flagship officers of the navy.

S, founded in 1845, has long been led exclusively by naval officers. The appointment of a navy marks a net departure and a signal of evolution of priorities in joint leadership and the development of force.

Phelan described the Academy as one of the “substantial institutions of American public life” and said that the management of Borgschulte will help shape the officers “for an increasingly disputed world”.

Borgschulte was ordered in 1991 after graduating from the Naval Academy and occupied several command and combat roles throughout his career. In his current position, he oversees staff policies, preparation and structure of the Marines force.

Davids, a graduate of the Naval Academy in 1989, marked history as the first woman and the first Hispanic to be a superintendent. His mandate at the Academy seems to end prematurely.

The superintendents are traditionally supposed to serve three -year mandates and then retire. A press release from the Ministry of Defense (DOD) has not provided an explanation for sudden change, and its next assignment requires a waiver of the congress. Her next role would generally require a post-retirement transition, which she has not yet finished.

Davids’ husband, Adm. Adm. Keith Davids retired last year as commander of the special naval war. The couple met at the Academy when they were both full.

Fox News Digital contacted the navy concerning the calendar of the leadership transition. The appointment is now in the hands of the Senate without yet an official date for confirmation or change of command.
