The self -proclaimed socialist should also meet the head of the Senate minority, Senator Chuck Schumer, Dn.y., although no date has been set. Many have speculated on how the opposing positions of the two Democrats on Israel will play in the meeting and the decision of Schumer.
The longtime democratic legislator Schumer, who is Jewish, was a French-speaking supporter of Israel and condemned the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement. Meanwhile, Mamdani, who is Muslim, was a faithful critic of Israel and a supporter of BDS.
Mamdani faced reactions on his statements on Israel, in particular by refusing to say if Israel has the right to exist as a Jewish state and his initial refusal to condemn the expression “globalizing the intifada”. However, he recently began to distance himself from the sentence.
The New York Times reported on Tuesday that Mamdani told business leaders that he would not use the expression and that “would discourage” others from doing so. He should clarify his position on the sentence this week.

Jeffries gives the answer not yet to approve Mamdani for the mayor of New York
Although Schumer has not yet offered his approval, he defended Mamdani against GOP criticism. When President Donald Trump said he had to “arrest” Mamdani if the controversial candidate should become mayor of New York and refused to work with ice, Schumer described the threat of “pathetic absurdity”.
“Trump continues to talk about great American values, but threaten to stop politicians who do not agree with him is as non -American as possible. It would make America a dictatorship,” Schumer wrote on X.
Mamdani may not have the approval of Schumer, but he obtained the support of another eminent Jewish Democrat in NY, representative Jerry Nadler.
