The thrust of French President Emmanuel Macron for the Palestinian State to the United Nations strongly faced Donald Trump’s message – but the rivalry of the two leaders also played in the streets of New York in an unexpected way.
In the United Nations General Assembly, Macron officially announced that France’s recognition by a Palestinian State, insisting that this decision was “essential for peace”. Trump, speaking today, smashed recognition as a “reward” for “the horrible atrocities of Hamas, including October 7”, which would only extend conflicts.

But far from the United Nations scene, the two presidents collided in an unusual moment when Macron was arrested at a pedestrian crossing by New York police while Trump’s procession crossed Manhattan. “Sorry the president, everything is frozen, the procession moves now,” said an officer. Macron, visibly frustrated, replied: “If you can’t see him, let me cross.”
With the blocked road, Macron won his phone and called President Trump directly. According to a video circulating online, the French president said: “Guess what, I’m waiting in the street because everything is frozen for you.” It was only after the call was finally authorized.

Macron then crossed the city for almost half an hour, dragged by passers-by who stopped it for the selfies. A person planted a kiss on his head. Macron laughed at the meeting, saying: “It’s just a kiss, does no harm.”
