The federal trial of Ryan Routh, accused of having tried to assassinate President Donald Trump while playing golf in September 2024, resumed on Tuesday with more FBI medico-legal experts scheduled to testify.
On Monday, jurors heard FBI firearms and Erich Smith tool brands, which alleged that the rifle found near the Sixth Trump Golf Club was a Norinco Sks of Chinese manufacturing. Smith said that the weapon was “in operation” when it was recovered, successfully at the FBI laboratory and was configured with a tour in the room and safety – which means that it was “ready to shoot”.
He also testified that the rifle serial number had been “erased in several places” but could be partially restored.

Smith showed jurors the metal jacket rounds entirely in metal of 7.62×39 mm loaded in the rifle.
“The bullets are designed to put holes in things,” he said. “It would have put a hole in something if he had reached the target.”
Roth, representing himself, countered Smith on the question of whether all the SKS rifles are semi-automatic, if test tests were recorded on video band and if the weapon could have changed hands during a firearm show before obtaining it.
“So, are we just supposed to believe you?”“” Routh asked Smith.

Smith replied: “This is what happened.”
The judge named Trump, Aileen Cannon, underwent objections of prosecution when Roth moved away beyond the testimony field.
The court also heard the FBI biologist, Curtis Gaul, who testified to the collection of potential DNA samples from the rifle handle, a glove, zipped ties and other articles found. Roth briefly questioned briefly, asking where the glove was found and if Gaul knew who deleted the scope of the rifle.
Cannon cut several times in interrogation, urging prosecutors and Routh to maintain the moving exams.

The jurors seemed confused during certain parts of the testimony of Gaul, while the prosecutors referred to the exhibition numbers without always displaying them. Meanwhile, Routh was seen leaning forward, taking notes and looking carefully when the fingerprints corresponded to his were displayed on a screen.
When the court resumed on Tuesday morning, prosecutors are expected to call the FBI biologist, Kara Gregor, followed by additional FBI specialists in digital criminalics and supervision roles while they continue to build their file against Routh.
