Libs of Tiktok Post leads to the resignation of the member of the Oklahoma Bree Montoya council

Bree Danyele Montoya, member of the municipal council representing Norman, district 3 of Oklahoma, resigned immediately on Tuesday after a comment on Facebook that she wrote by telling a supporter of Trump to injure herself and became viral when he was shared by Libs of Tiktok.
The resignation followed months of inaction of the municipal council, according to criticism, until the exchange acquired the national traction online. The city of Norman has since stressed that if elected officials speak for themselves, it “does not support the actions or behaviors that can encourage damage”.
“At various titles, I have served this community since 2008, and I am ready to pursue other interests. Doing immediately, I resign as a member of the Council for the district 3. Thank you, district 3,” said Montoya at the meeting.

In an email at Fox News Digital, Norman communications director, Tiffany Martinez Vrska, said: “The city of Norman as a municipal company does not support the actions or behaviors that can encourage damage; exercise municipal functions which provide or support the public service remains the center of the company.”
She added that elected officials only speak for themselves when they make personal remarks. The officials underlined resources explaining the structure of the government of the Norman Council and the way in which the vacancy in district 3 will be filled in the coming weeks.
The online confrontation dates back to June, when Montoya and Abbott pleaded on Facebook the size of a “No Kings” event. Montoya called Abbott “without instruction” and degenerated by telling him to injure herself.

Screen catches of the exchange spread in local Facebook groups during the summer before Tiktok Libs recently amplified them on social networks. Abbott and others say that Norman officials ignored the controversy until the position is online. Montoya was elected for the first time in 2023, re -elected in February 2025, sworn again on July 1 and resigned less than three months later.

“As mayor, I want to affirm our commitment to maintain the guaranteed rights under the first amendment of the United States Constitution. The right to freedom of expression is fundamental for our democracy, and it is our responsibility to ensure that each citizen has the possibility of expressing their opinions and being heard,” said the mayor.
“Although we honor the right to freedom of expression, we must also maintain a respectful, ordered environment conducive to a productive discussion,” added Holman. “My goal is to make sure that each voice of this play can be heard while maintaining the integrity and decorum of our meetings. I ask for your cooperation and mutual respect while we continue to work together for the improvement of Norman.”
