“This is a new devastator,” said the president of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., “The idea that political violence has taken one of the strongest votes on the conservative side is a big sorrow. Charlie was a close friend of me and a confidant, and we will be in cruelly missing, and we need each political leader to denounce violence and make it strong.

“It’s more than terrible,” said senator Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., “Charlie Kirk was a husband, father and son. Violence is never the answer. Sydney and I keep the Kirk family in our prayers.”

The head of the majority of the Senate, John Thune, RS.D., addressed Kirk’s death on the Senate soil and said that “political violence, that this attack seems to be, has no place in this country – none”.

“I am deeply disturbed by the threat of violence that has entered our political life, and I pray for us to remember that each person, whatever the vehemence of our disagreement with them, is a human being and another American deserving respect and protection,” he said.

President Donald Trump confirmed the news on Truth Social and said: “No one understood or had the hearts of young people in the United States of America than Charlie.”

Kirk was killed during an event on his “American tour” at the University of Utah Valley on Wednesday afternoon. The university initially declared that a suspect was in detention but later announced that the person had been released.

Campus police asked students to call a hotline and be escorted on Wednesday afternoon.

Senator Mike Lee, Rutah, called Kirk “an American patriot, an inspiration for countless young people to get up and defend the timeless truths that make our country big”.

“This murder was an act of loose violence, an attack on the champions of freedom like Charlie, the students who met for a civil debate and all the Americans who are peacefully trying to save our nation,” he said.

“Terrorists will not win,” he continued. “Charlie Will. Please join me to pray for his wife Erika and their children. Let justice be fast.”

Senator John Fetterman, d-pa., Asked: “We must collectively find a path to follow during these polarized times.”

His death follows a wave of attempts at high -level political assassination in an increasingly polarized political environment.

Trump survived two distinct assassination attempts a few weeks before the other when he presented himself to be re -elected in 2024. Meanwhile, a man armed from Minnesota fired and killed the representative of the State Melissa Hortman and her husband, while seriously injuring another state legislator, last June.
