Lee Elia, a long -standing baseball life that could be best known for its 1983 epic rant, died this week at the age of 87.

Elia played in 95 Big League games and managed 538 with the Chicago and Philadelphia Phillies Cubs. But it was after one of these matches where Elia may have given one of the most legendary diatribes of all time.

On April 29, 1983, Elia was the skipper of the Cubs when they fell at 5-14 with a 4-3 defeat against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The crowd of Wrigley Field of 9,391 threw garbage on Keith Moreland and Larry Bowa while the Cubs were heading for the clubhouse.

Elia replied with a diatriber filled with explanive against fans of the cubs which included at least 40 F. F.

“F – K these fans f — ING who come here and say that these are cub fans who are supposed to be behind you by tearing everything you do,” started Elia. “I’m going to tell you something F — Ing, I hope that we will have an f — warmer than S —, just to put on 3000 F — ING who present every day F —, because if they are the real fans of Chicago F — ING, they can kiss my F — ING A- Downward.”

It was only the start of the three-minute tirade that was taken that day on a lonely microphone in the clubhouse.

As part of his remarks, he said that 85% of the world worked, while “the other 15% come here”. At the time, there were no lights at Wrigley Field, and the Cubs only played day matches at home.

Elia, originally from Philadelphia, had a record of 238-300 in four seasons as a manager of the big league, two with the cubs and two with the Phillies. He was a short stop during his player career, hitting .203 with three circuits and 25 points produced in 95 games with the White Sox and the Cubs. He was the third basic coach when the Phillies won the World Series 1980.
