Kristi Noem continues the extradition of the Mexican national for the murder of Illinois

The interior security secretary Kristi Noem continues the extradition of a Mexican national who has stabbed a 24 -year -old woman to death in her apartment in Illinois, and she also targets Democratic Governor JB Pritzker.

The suspect, Gabriel P. Calixto, is accused of first-degree and domestic murder for having allegedly killed Emma Shafer in Springfield, Illinois, in July 2023. Calixto was in the United States illegally when crime was committed, and he was captured Thursday by Mexican police.

“The vicious illegal foreign murderer who has escaped justice for two years after having stabbed Emma Shafer, 24, aged 24, we will continue to work with the federal authorities to coordinate extradition procedures,” said Noem in a press release. “Thank you to our partners responsible for the application of laws for having translated this author into justice.”

The announcement comes as the Trump administration plans to repression of the crime in Chicago, which could lead to a possible increase in the troops of the National Guard and ice agents carrying out operations.

“I call Governor Pritzker and other Illinois state leaders to abandon these dangerous sanctuary politicians,” added Noem. “We have to return to the law and order and put the safety of the Americans first.”

Noem held a press conference in Springfield in May to criticize state immigration policies.

Pritzker specifically opposes the possible deployment of the National Guard, which is underway in Washington, DC, to dissuade the crime. The Democrat said it was “non -American” to send troops to the city at a press conference on Friday.

“An American president invading a city with troops. It’s not American. We still need help for crime, but not the troops,” he said.

The repression of the crime of Washington, DC, led to hundreds of immigration arrests alone, including members of the alleged gangs of Tren from Aragua and MS-13. Many Democrats have opposed the deployment of troops, but there have been degrees of nuance in criticism and even praise for taking control in the capital. The takeover went from federal police surveillance of police forces to other federal agencies that are patrolling the streets.

“This is what we think that in a few weeks of experience,” said the mayor of DC Muriel Bowser on Wednesday, saying that it helped the seizure of illegal firearms.

“We believe that there is more responsibility in the system, or at least the responsibility perceived in the system, that is to say illegal behavior. We know that we have had less crimes of firearms, less homicides and we have experienced an extreme reduction in cars.”
