Former vice-president Kamala Harris closed a door with her announcement that she would not present herself in 2026 for the governor of his California original state.
But his decision to keep his name on the ballot next year left the door open for a possible second presidential offer in 2028.
In his statement explaining his decision, Harris said: “For the moment, my leadership – and the public service – will not be based on elected officials.”
But Harris, who replaced the president of the time, Joe Biden, as presidential candidate in 2024 of the Democratic Party last summer after having abandoned the race in the midst of growing questions on his physical and mental endurance, is committed to remaining involved in politics.

“I can’t wait to come back and listen to the American people, to help the Democrats across the country who will fight without fear, and to share more details in the coming months on my own plans,” she said.
After losing last year’s elections to President Donald Trump, then purged the rest of his mandate as vice-president, Harris returned to California and kept close advice with an inner circle of confidant.
21 Democrats who can come to the White House in 2028
And some in his inner circle, as well as political analysts, suggested that the management and victory of the election in 2026 for the governor of California, the most populous state in the country and the house of the fifth world economy, would probably take a race of the White House in 2028.
But with a table governor race, it is no longer a concern.
If Harris ended up launching a presidential campaign in 2028, she would start her journey on the road to the White House as a most recognizable democrat of what should be a large field of contenders. And it would also be equipped with a large fundraising network which it built in the last cycle.
“She would certainly be a very serious candidate in primary school in 2028, if she introduced herself,” a democratic and veteran strategist of the White House campaigns told Fox News.
The strategist, which asked to remain anonymous to speak more freely, said that “many democrats think that it was put in a difficult situation in 2024 and deserves to have a chance to run a race alone … She was limited to doing some of the things she might have done to do a clean break with Biden.”
But Harris could also be increased with many political baggage in the 2024 campaign, when the Democrats lost not only the White House but also their majority in the Senate, and failed to reconquer the control of the Chamber.
Succeed Trump in 2028: six republicans to keep his eyes
While the party seeks to escape the political desert, many democrats aim to take a clear break with the past as they strive to reset.
“If you try to take a different path for the party, it is difficult to back down and choose the person who lost against Trump,” a Democratic consultant at Fox News told. “There must be a new start, a new generation.”
If Harris runs, she should face her unwavering support in Biden because her physical and mental capacities seemed to vacillate in front of the Americans.
Republican representative James Comer, who as a surveillance chair of the house inquiry on use by the former president of the Autopen and the mental condition in the White House, said in an interview on “the angle of Ingraham” of Fox News “that” the chances that Kamala Harris obtains a summary is very high “.
While Harris has spent the months recently reflecting on his decision on a government race, other contenders for the potential democratic presidential elections 2028 have already made early movements while they are trying to go beyond the Biden administration and the reverse of last year’s elections.
Among them are governments. Gavin Newsom of California, JB Pritzker of Illinois, Josh Shapiro de Pennsylvania, Wes Moore of Maryland, Andy Beshear of Kentucky, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, as well as the senator Cory Booker from New Jersey and the former secretion of Bide Transportation Pete buttig.
While Harris, in his statement, excluded a race for the elective office next year, she is committed to staying in the fight.
And Thursday, she went to social networks to announce her new book on her presidential campaign in 2024, entitled “107 days”.
“What the world has seen on the campaign campaign was only part of the story. My new book is a look back on my experience leading the shortest presidential campaign in modern history,” wrote Harris.

The former president of the National Democratic Committee, Dona Brazile, who is part of the wider orbit of friends and advisers of the former vice-president, noted that “in the modern vice-president, these people do not go to darkness; they continue their public life, whether it be a academic, the public sector, public speaking, advisory services for companies or non-profit, Personal lawyer, writing a memory or return for the public. “
“There are so many shortcomings that the former vice-president can fill, so many roles that she can play, whether as a citizen or a civil servant. It is only one of the many decisions she will make in her life,” Brazile told Fox News.
